Though more a “haulable” than a “towable”, truck campers could also be classified as “drivable” RVs. Sliding into the cargo bed of a pickup truck, truck campers offer a surprising level of luxury and comfort for those who also want to use their truck to tow a boat, horse trailer or cargo trailer. A set of manual or 12-volt electric jacks raises and lowers the entire camper so it can slide onto or off of the truck bed. When not traveling, the camper can easily be removed from the truck, freeing cargo space for everyday use.
Truck camper amenities include many found in other RVs, including sleeping accommodations for four to six people; a compact kitchen equipped with refrigerator, cooktop or range and a microwave. The cabover area of the camper holds a full, queen or two single beds; the dinette converts to a bed; some models offer a pull-down bunk over the dinette for additional sleeping or storage, and some offer a push-out bed at the rear. Most truck campers offer either a closet that can double as space for a portable toilet or a wet bath, with the toilet inside the shower compartment. New models start at about $8000, ranging up to about $36,000.
